Excuse me madam, have you ever thought...

Aged seven I was in Brighton with my mum and a man came up to us and said,

'Excuse me madam. Have you ever thought of putting your son in for film work?'

Amazing! Unexpected! It happened. That day we went to Brighton film studios. I was transfixed. The camera on its track looked like a giant steam engine to me. The activity, the light... I was studio-struck that day. We were asked to come back. I auditioned for an ad. As we sat in reception a man who'd been in the room passed us and said, 'I think its going to be you'. We waited. It wasn't me. We went home. End of excitement. Return to the life that people from our background expected. Filming wasn't for us.

Except it was.  After a career in Teaching, TIE, Community Theatre, BBC Learning, Discovery Channel, writing books and resources - and more I decided it was time to act. Close to sixty years after Brighton, I got my first TV ad. and much more... voice over, film, radio drama. Yes, seven-year-old Gordon - we're an Actor, you and I.
